People are not the only elements who are physically moving, but information also come and go when we travel.
People with more information is always the stronger party no matter which time we live in.
People who have access to Big Data in the modern world – aren’t they the equivalent of travellers in the old times?
Back in the old days over 100 years ago, travellers probably acted as “carriers” as they bring in information from other places when they stop by different small villages.
People have traveled to encounter information that do not move from a specific place.
Accommodation facilities do not only function as a place where people stay, but also where information gather.
However, people who carry information while they travel are replaced by the internet today.
On the contrary, we can still try to collect a range of different live data and information while we stay at a certain “accommodation” or from the “people who stay at the accommodation” at a specific place. In this sense, the accommodation, or the place where people stay is still a special place where information gather, and its existence is similar to the internet even before the internet was invented.
Takeshiro Matsuura, which we researched on with the team in 2016, was born and raised along the bustling main road of the Ise pilgrimage. Having grown up in an environment where lots of different people come and go from Edo (ancient Tokyo) and other places, it was rather natural for him to become interested in the new unknown world and to realize the importance of becoming a holder of information, ultimately leading him to become an explorer.
